Update about the old posts: I got the CSV file from Forumromanum but there is no easy way to import this to phpBB. There are some discussions on the phpbb help board and the experts all say "not possible without a lot of work".

how does phpBB store posts? If they're in a database, it shouldn't be too hard to import a csv into that.

Importing a csv into phpbb is possible and not an issue. The issue is more like getting the data sets compatible (old database structure is different).
Posts are having a user and a thread ID. So I think it is first required to go through all old posts, identify users and create legacy users in the new database. This could be done by sorting the old data.

The data in the CSV file from forumromanum is also not really good. Some extries are split over several lines and need to be fixed.
