The first Bricks World Championship is planned for September/October 2009.
It will replace the bimonthly competition for these two months. The bimonthly
competition will continue in November.
The main difference in the Bricks World Championship is that always two players
play against each other. The puzzles will be not too difficult and the time period
for solving is rather short.
First Round (group stage )
In the first round all players will be divided into 8 groups.
The top 8 participants of the World Ranking List (state end of August) will be put into different groups. The next 8 players will be randomly put to the groups
(one player to each groups). Then the next 8 players and so on.
In each group each player will play against each other. If there were 4 players in each
group every player will play 3 matches.
In the first round a match consist of one level with an estimated solution of about 50-100
moves. Both players in a match will get the same level. Other matches will have different
levels to avoid cheating. However, the levels will be similar (some block shuffling).
Both players will have the same amount of time to solve and optimize the level. The period for
playing the match will be one week and both players can pick their individual starting point
within the week.
Solutions must be sent within the solving time period which is two days. Solutions which arrive
late will count as ‘not solved‘.
The winner of the match will get 2 points, in case of a tie both players will get 1 point.
If both players don‘t solve the level or send in the solution after the deadline they will
get 0 points. Only moves will be count for the score (no steps).
After all group matches the best two players of each group will reach the knockout stage.
The best players are the players which got the highest number of points from the group matches.
In case of a tie the direct match with the other tieing player(s) will decide the ranking
(moves, if the match was a tie, then the steps will count).
Knockout stage
After the group stage the Bricks World Championship will continue with the knockout stage (round of 16). The winners of the groups will play against the second placed players of a diffent group.
A tournament plan will be posted when the number of participants is fixed.
Again one level will be played and the winner will advance to the next round. The level will be a little bit bigger than in the group stage.
In case of a tie the steps will count. If there is still a tie the players with the shorter solving time wins (time from downloading to sending in the solution).
The one level knockout stage will continue until four players are left who will play the half finals.
Half Finals and Final
From the half finals on three levels will be played. The solving period will be doubled (four days). Each level will be compared and the
better solution will get two points (evaluation of moves only). In case of a tie both player will get
one point. The winner is the player with the higher number of points. In case of a tie the total number
of moves (all three levels) will be taken into account. If there is still a tie the total number of steps
is decisive.
